Artist's Statement
Willow was created in July 2010. The name is derived from the type of tree that is shown - a Weeping Willow - a beautiful tree known for having thin, soft, drooping limbs. Within the tree is the abstract face of a woman, which is upset. The painting was created in a single afternoon, in under 20 minutes, as an impetuous reaction to a conversation that the artist had with a friend. As soon as the artist hung up the phone with her friend, she went into her studio and created Willow. Though the face in the tree is disturbed, there is still a sense of strength and resolve expressed. The painting tells us that the woman will quickly recover and continue to grow much like a real weeping willow tree.
