What Inspired this Painting?
The Escape was inspired by a dream that the artist had. Rachael woke up from a dream where she was crouched and hiding behind a tree as she held a knife in her hand.
It was nighttime, and she could see obscure figures that stood on a hilltop that rose in the distance; beams of lights glowed behind the figures. She could also hear the sounds of many voices without being able to distinguish what was being said. She did not know who the searchers were, but she felt fear and a readiness to fight. In addition, she sensed that she was somehow caught between two dimensions, and the tree which provided her cover served as the border between these two dimensions. She did not know what to expect.
Were they going to find her? Was she going to be swept away to another world? Would she have to fight? She asked herself these questions as she dreamt, but before any answers were revealed, she woke up from the dream. This painting depicts the last image of her dream before her waking.
