Artist's Statement
This painting captures the sadness of a young girl as she sits in her bedroom at night. On the right side of the painting, we see an open window that exposes the night and the golden moon that hangs in the sky. The girl faces the window, but her head is dropped and tears fall from her eyes. She sits in a chair and holds one leg propped up toward her chest. The chair she sits in is a shoe, and the artist fits the girl inside of the shoe to express how the girl's feeling of sadness makes her feel very small - as if she could literally fit in a shoe and hide away from the world. Also, the use of a shoe signifies the act of being taken advantage of, or being "walked upon" or "walked all over"... which also has the effect of making us feel small, disappointed, sad and frustrated.
