Pearls was created in January 2010. The painting’s black impressions are of a female torso and her hands. The painting was inspired by a biblical proverb that admonishes, “Do not throw your pearls before swine”. The silver spheres that decorate the foreground signify pearls that emanate from the woman.
The woman in this painting is exposed to a harsh environment, illustrated by the rain and snow, and she stands in a defensive position. The stream of red that falls from her mouth reveals that she has suffered a minor injury. The painting embodies the principle of the proverb. The woman within the painting follows the admonition of the proverb in her daily life. How so?
One, she knows her value. She is a pearl, and she exudes a loving and giving personality. By opening herself up to others, yes, she has had to suffer a little through the unkind words or actions of others, but she doesn't become jaded nor does she become a cyclical victim. Two, she knows how to identify and deal with swine-like people - those who mistreat others, who are unappreciative and take others for granted. She doesn't waste her time or energy on them. She does not 'throw her pearls before swine'.
